Ravindranath Tagore Beach, Karwar

Both of us have fond memories of Karwar wherein ones recollection is vague and others crystal clear. That is the reason we could not agree upon choosing Karwar as a beach destination. We have passed through this coastal town aplenty on our way to Goa. And we are also aware of the fact that when you travel extensively you fall short of places of interest to suit your timings.

It is easy to get lost in the soothing vibes of Buddhist monastery. That is what happened to us in Drepung Monastery, Mundgod. We wanted to be in Karwar before lunch for its coastal cuisine. The distance between Mundgod and Karwar is 140 KM via NH52 and SH6.

We can never get tired of driving through the magnificent Western Ghats. These raw and rough terrain with thick blanket of green beckons us endlessly. And when you are in Evergreen forest it is an unwritten rule to sing K.S. Nissar Ahmed's "Nityotsava".

After sumptuous meal and relaxing siesta we were in the Rabindranath Tagore Beach around 4:30. The onslaught of humidity reminded us despite Monsoon the seaside temperature will be warm.

“The sea beach of Karwar is certainly a fit place in which to realize that the beauty of Nature is not a mirage of the imagination, but reflects the joy of the Infinite and thus draws us to lose ourselves in it. Where the universe is expressing itself in the magic of its laws it may not be strange if we miss its infinitude; but where the heart gets into immediate touch with immensity in the beauty of the meanest of things, is any room left for argument?"-Ravindranath Tagore

The beach was named after the noble laureate Ravindranath Tagore. It is easy to understand he was in awe of the beach as mentioned in the above quote. It is said he spent a great deal of time in this town while visiting his elder brother Satyendranath Tagore who was the district judge of Karwar in 1882. The above quote also gives us the glimpse of Philosopher he was.

The beach was buzzing with activities; children's building the sand castles and playing with waves; few adults trying their hands on water-sports; and others just unwinding the day relaxing. The rolling hills on the side were hazy and at a distant. Taking in all we rested in the beach and that is how we were going to roll until the sunset.

When touched a handful the sand gleamed in gentle hue of gold. Few fishermen were pulling the boats out into the dock as the day is coming to an end. We clicked few mandatory photos as sun started melting into the horizon like hot flame.

The buzz of crowd starting to ebb away. We could hear waves roaring and crashing onto the shore. It was our cue to end the pleasant evening on this beautiful beach.
